Medical Office Assistant
Medical Office Assistants are valued members of the medical team and are increasingly relied upon to perform routine administrative and clinical procedures. As a Medical Office Assistant student, you learn to perform such clinical procedures as Electrocardiograms and routine laboratory tests.

You will learn to assist physicians during examination and treatment. Training also includes the preparation of medical insurance bills, reports, correspondence, forms and the transcription of medical dictation. Additional skill areas include keyboarding, medical word processing and computer applications (including the Internet). Communication skills and patient relations are also taught.

The course concludes with an internship to help apply your learned skills in an actual work setting. Graduates are qualified to seek positions as medical assistants in physicians' offices, clinics and other health-related facilities.

Medical Office Assistant with GED Prep
Open to only those students who score VS 200 and QS 210 and below VS 248 and QS 254 on the Wonderlic. The Medical Office Assistant Program with GED Prep incorporates two additional classes GED Science and GED Social Studies to prepare the student for GED if they choose to take the exam. Successful completion of the GED is not required to complete the program. The content of our Business Writing, Business English, and Business Math courses contain other content included in the GED exam.

Nursing Assistant/Orderly
Nursing Assistants are an important part of the health care team. They work under the supervision of Nurses and other medical staff. Nursing Assistants have constant contact with the patients providing them with assistance.

Phlebotomy Technician
Students will learn about Phlebotomy, the Health Care setting, medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, blood collection equipment and supplies, specimen collection, venipuncture, arterial blood gases, and infection control.

EKG Technician
The Student will learn about anatomy and physiology, basic electrophysiology, sinus rhythms, junctional rhythms, atrioventricular block and pacemaker rhythms.

Medical Billing
Students will be introduced to medical insurance, billing & recordkeeping, patient records, medical records, billing practices, and computerized medical records, HCPCS, ICD-9 and CPT codes.

ACADEMIC STANDING
Medical Office Assistant Program

Each marking period, grades are evaluated. Any student whose cumulative average is below a “D+” (GPA 1.50) will be placed on probation for one marking period (5 weeks for a term, 4 weeks for a quarter, if his/her cumulative average is below a “D+” (GPA 1.50). A student on academic probation must bring his/her cumulative grade point average (GPA) up to “D+” (GPA 1.50) by the end of the next marking period, or they may be dismissed. A student dismissed for academic failure may be readmitted after a period of one year, upon reapplication and approval by the School Director.

A waiver of good standing may be granted by the School Director to eligible students due to extenuating circumstances. A grade report is issued at the end of each module.

A cumulative grade average of “C” (GPA 2.00) is required for graduation. A Certificate is issued upon successful completion of the program.

Certified Nursing Assistant
and Medical Billing


The Academic Standing Requirements are that each student must receive a minimum grade of "C" in each of the 20 modules in the program. If they fail a module, they are permitted to retake the module, until they receive the passing grade.

A minimum grade average of "C" (GPA 2.00) in each module is required for graduation. A Certificate is issued upon successful completion of the program and (for CNA only) passing of the State Board Exam.

Students in the Nursing Assistant/Orderly program sit for the New York State Nurse Aide Certificate exam.
